I created this quick website to answer many general questions I get about the 172. I am a part time CFI at KHQU(Thomson, GA) and the aircraft is usually hangared a 65J(Wrens, GA). I am selling the aircraft for a fellow who is having medical issues and wants to move into the sport pilot realm. If you have any other detailed questions, contact me.

Operationally:
This is a sound airplane that flies true. Runs very smooth and great throttle response for a carbuerated airplane. I flew it at night not too long ago and most of the panel eyebrow lights worked. Burns about 1 quart of oil every 4 hours or so. No corrosion issues, some rusting here and there, nothing structural. There have been no major modifications to the aircraft. I love the 40 degree manual flaps.

Performance:
Realistically get 104kias at 8.5 gallons per hour with about 450fpm rate of climb with 2 occupants on a standard day. POH takeoff/landing figures below are accurate.

Problems:
Needs cosmetic, paint is literally dusting off, exterior plastics cracked up.

Engine is about 300 from TBO I am told. Last overhaul was in 1971 at 1453 hours. The endorsement does not state the crank as being ground or turned. Just magnafluxing and replacement of wear and tear parts.

Nosewheel shimmys occasionally, I am told this is a common problem.

Pitot/static is slightly off (altimeter 100ft off/ VSI Sluggish at best)

Generator is not strong enough to run the landing light for too long

Panel compass not reliable. Panel bell type DG not reliable. Manifold pressure not functional. Fuel Gages not reliable.
